After nearly 100 years in the vaults of the Smithsonian, artifacts from the Etowah Indian Mounds return to Georgia!
Learn about the mineral exploration, craftsmanship, and extensive trade networks of the Etowah Valley Indians in our new special exhibit From Clay to Copper. The exhibit showcases over 60 archaeological objects on loan from the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History – artifacts that have been in storage since they were collected nearly a hundred years ago. These excavated objects from the Etowah Indian Mounds, a local site that dates back to the Woodland and Mississippian periods, reveal the rich culture and mining heritage of the area.
