• Enjoy themed activities, 10 AM – 4 PM

• Watch Smithsonian Science Q webcasts in the Theater, 10 AM – 5 PM

Thursday: AVIATION
Supergirl at Tellus Science Museum

• Meet pilots.

• Take your picture with Supergirl.

• Try your hand at a flight simulator.

ACTIVITY: Is it a bunny, an elephant, or a dinosaur? Or is it a paper helicopter? Make all three and compare how the different shapes and sizes of the blades makes a difference as gravity pulls and they twirl to the ground.

Dr. Torsten Dikow

PLUS, join us in the Theater at 2 PM:

Smithsonian Science How LIVE Webcast: Assassin Flies – Predators of the Insect World

Featuring Entomologist Torsten Dikow

Join us as we meet Dr. Torsten Dikow, an entomologist at the National Museum of Natural History. Marvel at how predatory assassin flies are able to catch other insects, even larger ones, during flight. Learn about the incredible biodiversity of these flies, with more than 7,500 species distributed around the globe. Accompany Torsten on a journey through southern Africa, Australia, and the U.S., where he captures flies to figure out their evolutionary relationships. See how Torsten has been able to describe almost 70 new species of assassin and related flies by examining their body features and DNA.
