
SUMMARY:To prepare and serve food in the Café, Private Dining Room, Banquet Hall and at Special Events while providing a unique and welcoming environment, delicious food, and exceptional customer service.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Prepare and serve food and beverages in accordance with department guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness in the kitchen, dining area, and storage areas.
- Ability to safely use knives, slicing mandolin, food processors, industrial ovens, industrial dishwasher, food disposal, and other café and kitchen equipment as needed.
- Operate cash register, perform opening procedures, and prepare closing reports and daily deposits.
- In the absence of the Food and Beverage Manager, insure that operations or events run smoothly and must be able to problem solve independently.
- Keep current on all food safety guidelines including temperature requirements of food items to ensure public safety and excellent inspection scores.
- Assist with food ordering and inventory as needed.
- Assist with scheduling, training, and leading of other café staff.
- Be proficient in providing excellent banquet and dining room service.
- Understand alcohol service guidelines and insure they are followed.
- Help to replenish food, beverage, and condiment items as needed.
- Cooperate with other staff regarding catering and special events.
- Constantly strive to give good customer service.
- Be responsible for ensuring high standards of professionalism in all areas of responsibility.
- Remain current on pertinent museum industry policies, laws, and accepted practices through involvement in industry trade groups and ongoing professional development.
- Perform other tasks and projects as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Ability to read and write.
- Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
- Strong customer service background and food industry experience preferred.
- Manual dexterity to operate computers, cash registers, and other office equipment, handling money, as well as food preparation requiring cutting chopping, or slicing.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., bend, stoop, reach, kneel, climb a stepstool, and stand for a majority of a full shift.
- Must be able to drive to assist with transportation of food and beverage product purchases for the café.
- Must have good reasoning, logic, interpersonal skills, visual acuity, hearing, and be able to differentiate colors.
- Must have a good sense of smell and taste.
- Must be able to immerse hands in water and use of various cleaning supplies including bleach.
- Must adhere to company appearance policy and Tellus Café dress code.
- Must be available to work nights, holidays, weekends and varying shifts.
- Must be able to perform all essential duties and responsibilities listed in the job description above.
- Must pass drug test.
- Must agree to background check.
- Perform other tasks and projects as assigned by supervisor.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must have a valid Driver’s License. Must be able to pass ServSafe Certification test, TIPS Alcohol Certification test, CPR training, and obtain a pouring license.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Food and Beverage/Café environment, non-standard hours, weekends required on a regular or rotational basis. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
