
SUMMARY: Assist guests in the Museum Store, selling store merchandise and providing information about products to interested buyers, sell museum memberships and ensure that all visitors have a positive Museum Store experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Ensure that the Store is always well merchandised and demonstrate knowledge of Store merchandise.
- Ensure exact daily balances of assigned cash drawer.
- Invite customers to purchase or renew a membership at the beginning of every transaction.
- Handle phone inquiries in a professional manner.
- Utilize creative problem solving to resolve customer issues.
- Be available to attend training programs or meetings as requested by Store Manager.
- Restock store supplies, i.e. bags, boxes, register tapes and promotional items.
- Communicate effectively with fellow Associates and Management.
- Provide information on museum exhibits, activities, events, and retail products to enhance the visitor experience.
- Assist in annual store inventory.
- Assist in pricing and stocking store merchandise.
- Learn and apply POS software.
- Be acquainted with the information provided in the Guest Services handbook.
- Understand the mission and goals of the museum and project a warm and friendly attitude toward guests and fellow staff.
- Be responsible for ensuring high standards of professionalism in all areas of responsibility.
- Perform other tasks and projects as requested by supervisor.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Two year college or technical school degree and one year retail experience preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills. The ability to interact with store customers, maintain a positive attitude, and flexibility is required.
CERTIFICATES, LISCENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid Driver’s License
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Museum and office environment, non-standard hours, generally within 8:00am to 6:00pm, Monday through Sunday, extended hours required as scheduled. Must be able to identify approaching visitors by site, make eye contact, identifying age range and speak appropriately. Must have ability to sit / stand 8 hours. Must have manual dexterity required for keyboarding. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
