Alfred Crosby, professor in the Polymer Science and Engineering Department at University of Massachusetts Amherst, will describe examples of how his research group takes inspiration from nature to help guide the design of new materials. He will highlight the development of the Geckskin® technology, a super-adhesive that was invented in their laboratory, as well as other recent examples inspired by mantis shrimp, trap-jaw ants, and the Venus flytrap plant.
