LECTURE: Solar flares that reach earth could disrupt all communication satellites, fry our power grids, and pose health hazards to astronauts in space. To minimize these damages, we must develop an efficient prediction mechanism that can warn us of such events well in advance. Varun Chaturmutha, a graduate student from Georgia State University, will explore the anatomy of the Sun and discuss current methodologies to predict solar flares.
PLANETARIUM SHOW: Solar Superstorms
Show times are 5 PM, 6 PM, and 8 PM.
