How does energy flow through what gets eaten? In this exploration, students will learn about prehistoric food chains and construct modern food chains and food webs. Program will run for 2 hours.

30 MINUTES – GALLERY TIME
– Define food chain vocabulary
– Explain food chains within each geologic era
– Seek out organisms within each era to model energy flow through a food chain
30 MINUTES
– Visit the Museum Store
30 MINUTES
– Fossil Dig
30 MINUTES – LAB
– Discuss food chains and where a food chain begins
– Demonstrate a fossil food chain
– Create a modern food chain
– Create a modern food web and discuss its flow of energy
TAKE HOME ITEMS
– Keep 3 fossils excavated from the Fossil Dig
