LET’S ROCK AND ROLL
Isn’t a rock a rock? Students will learn about the rock cycle and how rocks can change into something new. Students will also discuss, study, and sort specimens
into the three major rock types.
Field Trip
Program will run for 2 hours.
30 MINUTES – GALLERY TIME
– Learn about rocks on planet Earth
– Discuss the rock cycle and the rocks we find in Georgia
30 MINUTES
– Visit the Museum Store
30 MINUTES
– Gem Panning and Careers in Geology
30 MINUTES – LAB
– Define classification and its importance
– Classify rocks: igneous, sedimentary, metamorphic
– Discuss various parts of the rock cycle using hand specimens
TAKE HOME ITEMS
– Keep the gemstones found in Gem Panning
VIRTUAL Field Trip
