EMBARK ON AN OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD ADVENTURE WITH VETERAN NASA ASTRONAUT, AUTHOR, AND ARTIST NICOLE STOTT!

Learn more about Stott’s career with NASA where she served as a crewmember on both the International Space Station and the Space Shuttle and as an aquanaut at the Aquarius undersea laboratory. Dive into her experiences and personal accomplishments, like being the 10th woman in history to complete a spacewalk and the first person to paint a watercolor in space. Plus, discover how her time working with her international crew inspired her book – Back to Earth: What Life in Space Taught Me About Our Home Planet – And Our Mission to Protect It – which she will be available to sign following the lecture. 

In addition to the lecture, make sure to check out hands-on, space-themed activities! Experiment with a gravity well, create space-inspired watercolor art in collaboration with the Booth Western Art Museum, engage with out Color of the Moon interactive station, make crafts with representatives from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and talk to local high school students from Embry-Riddle dual enrollment program.

EVENT SCHEDULE

11 AM - RETIRED NASA ASTRONAUT COL. TERRY VIRTS

Retired astronaut Col. Terry Virts will discuss “The Astronauts Guide to Leaving the Planet” in this family friendly lecture. Hear first hand details about what it is like to leave the Earth. Seating will be first come, first served.

Following the lecture, Virts, who authored the books ‘The Astronaut’s Guide to Leaving the Planet’ and ‘How to Astronaut’ will be available for a book signing from noon to 1 PM.

1:30 PM - Retired NASA Food Scientist Dr. Vickie Kloeris

Orbit around the fascinating world of space food as you learn about the innovations behind feeding astronauts in space. Dr. Vickie Kloeris is the author “Space Bites” and will discuss working for NASA to create astronaut menus to be consumed in space. Seating will be first come, first served.

Dr. Kloeris will be available from 2:30 to 3:30 PM to sign her book.
